Close The Gate!

While my back was turned, and I was busy in my work, the latch to the gate of the chicken yard came loose(I didn't hook it right) and Gideon saw his chance and got out to stretch his legs. This was only a few minutes before I spotted him, but as some of you know............only a few minutes can be devastating in a garden when a chicken is loose. I don't know how he managed to get out without the others following him, but I was grateful that he was the only one to chase. But he looks so pretty in the middle of the stock flower.........it was sad to put him back into his yard. I used to let all of my chickens have free run around the grounds...........but this soon brought ruined flower beds, predators and death to the farm, so for their own safety..........and my sanity.............they are kept in their yard.
Maybe one day, when I don't care about what grows anymore........I might let them have free run again, but I have a feeling I will always want to grow flowers and keep chickens until I am 109..............at least!

  1. Welcome back!!!

Didn't realize chickens are like children, "Mom's not watching, so lets see what trouble we can stir up".

Looks up your getting some sunshine;-)

    Blessings,

  3. Great photo. Normally don't think of chickens as being as sneaky as a fox.

  4. I know what you mean about chickens tearing up everything. When I had my one orphan hen, I realized that when I do get my chickens, they will have to have a yard. That one little hen did a number on one of my flower beds and my husband complained about the poop. So I will have a yard for them, too!

That ole Gideon has probably been waiting for that moment for eons!

  5. I love this picture, I'm saving it, my computer could use some new wallpaper. We had chickens when I was a child, I remember them as being mischievous and not liking me, for some reason. You are also making me want to try some stock in my garden, it would be something new for me. I'll let you know how it goes.
